After the hardships of lockdowns and Covid-19, we wanted to return with summers full of light and joy as soon as we were able to do so.
Our aim is for the children in this area to have the same opportunities as any child in the city.
Max Walsh from ITV joined us on our last day of the summer activities 2021– a BBQ celebration of diversity, and documented why this summer program is so treasured and important for our families.

Children in Lawrence Hill & beyond enjoyed physical activities, cooking sessions, BBQ, trips, arts and crafts…

2022
Different activities, delicious lunches, parents socialising…
We had another road closure with Playing Out and their volunteers making the day special…
2 wonderful trips to Weymouth Beach, funded by @BrisDocHealth. Some families who’ve never been to a big UK beach said it reminds them of back home, and the kids saying “this is the best trip ever can we come back again?”…
Fantastic Glos cricket match at Ashley Down, funded by @ASPInclusion.
Trips to the Airspace Museum, SS Great Britain and Puxton Park.
As well as arts and crafts, and lots of sporty fun in our local parks.
2021
We had 3 fantastic tennis sessions through We Sport, that were often the talk of the day amongst the kids, despite the rain.
We had 2 road closures thanks to Playing Out and all our amazing volunteers, with yummy fruit donated and over 50 people joining.
We had football in Netham park, followed by a sports day outside Urban Park with over 200 children and their parents joining in the different games, and finishing with a picnic lunch.
We had an amazing trip to Crealy Theme Park & Resort, taking 3 full 70 seater buses (210 people).
The green spaces and forest walk were the adults’ favourite, whilst the children had fun on the rides and water boats. This helped so many parents who told us how isolated they feel in their overcrowded little flats. Some said they would never come this far by themselves…
We had back to back sessions in St Luke’s Church, with over 50 kids joining the ‘make your own pizza’ session, followed by pool, ping-pong and football-table games in the Crypt.
We had a day trip to Puxton Park, and to the SS Great Britain- parents saying how great a first time it was.
We did arts and crafts outside…
We baked cupcakes with Sakin, the children did all the work measuring, mixing and decorating. Listening to how much they enjoyed these baking sessions, we’re aiming to continue doing cooking with them every half term…
On our last day of the summer program, we celebrated diversity with cultural food and dress from East Africa, Algeria, and Yemen, a BBQ, music and face-painting.
